Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation (DAC), a progressive and culturally aware organisation, is seeking a passionate and experienced Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our leadership team.

We focus on achieving this vision through initiatives in education, employment, health and wellbeing, entrepreneurship, and economic development.

NOTE: This position is open to anyone currently living in Broome who would like to work for DAC and still reside in Broome. A company vehicle will be provided for the suitable applicant. We are currently looking for office space in Broome. We are intending on having a larger footprint so that we can better complement our business expansion in the West Kimberley’s.

About the Role

As the COO, you will play a pivotal role in the day-to-day operations and strategic direction of the Corporation. You will be a key member of the executive team, working closely with the CEO and Board to ensure the successful implementation of our strategic plan and the achievement of our goals. Your loyalty and dedication will be reflected across the organisations operations and community initiatives encouraging a sense of belonging and allowing you to feel the direct impacts your position contributes.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing the smooth running of all Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation operations, ensuring efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Providing strategic leadership and direction across all operational departments, including education, employment, health, and economic development programs.
  • Developing and implementing the Corporation’s budget, managing financial resources effectively, and ensuring financial sustainability.
  • Leading and motivating a high-performing and diverse team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Working collaboratively with the CEO and Board to develop and implement long-term strategic plans.
  • Building strong relationships with stakeholders, including government agencies, funding bodies, and community partners.
  • Overseeing risk management and compliance frameworks.
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance operational efficiency.
  • In the CEO’s absence (e.g. holidays) or as determined the COO will assume responsibility of Acting CEO.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrated experience as a COO or senior manager in a similar organisation.
  • A deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and protocols.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent strategic planning and analytical skills.
  • Proven track record of financial management and budget control.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • A commitment to reconciliation and social justice.
  • Police Clearance and ability to ability to obtain a Workers with Children Check.

Desirable

  • Experience in the not-for-profit sector.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Knowledge of government funding programs relevant to Indigenous Australians.
  • Experience in program development and implementation.
